Delicate Whisper

This is my second Dahlia drawing and it started on that same happy afternoon at the local garden centre with my son. While he was busy taking photos of everything bright and bold, I kept coming back to this flower, its quiet elegance really stood out to me. I felt compelled to capture its beautiful pose and aimed to recreate it for “Delicate Whisper”.

I worked again on charcoal grey Pastelmat with pastel pencils because nothing makes soft peachy pink tones glow quite like that deep, velvety dark. It gives the piece a gentle warmth, drawing your eye right to the flower's intricate layers and that soft, almost whispering delicacy in every petal. It's like the Dahlia is emerging from the shadows, full of quiet life and elegance.

Take a look below at the finished piece, some progress shots and the picture from our day at the garden centre. I hope it brings the same gentle lift to your room that it’s brought to mine every time I walk past.
