Nestled In The Meadow
I love drawing the hedgehogs that have visited our garden over the years. One quiet evening as it was turning dusk a small hedgehog wandered past our garden window. He was pottering through the long grass so sweet and blissful. That beautiful moment stuck with me and became the heart of “Nestled in the Meadow”.
I wanted to catch the gentle warmth of a late summer night, with soft greens and golden yellow washes giving way to the hedgehog’s earthy browns as he sits low and snug among the blades of grass.
I worked on A6 300gsm watercolour paper, using loose watercolour washes for the evening glow and coloured pencil for the finer textures of spines and grass. The paper’s subtle grain helps everything feel soft and natural.
Take a closer look below at the finished piece and close up angles. I hope this little hedgehog brings the same quiet, peaceful feeling to your day that he brings to our garden at twilight.
